Item 9267 is part of an assortment of 53 black and white photographs contained in a paper covered box 380mm x 502mm x 53mm.

 Inside this box was

1 envelope 324mm x 228mm without an address but labelled “Rockhampton Industrial Fair 22-30 Sept 1950” in biro, containing 2 black & white photographs of different size, but the same scene, and a 4 page report on foolscap paper.  These 2 black & white photographs are stamped on the back “P.M.G’S DEPARTMENT, ENGINEERING DIVISION, BRISBANE.  DRAFTING SECTION PHOTOGRAPH” and a NEG. No.

The report was addressed to “The DEPUTY DIRECTOR”, stating the design of the display put emphasis on local interest, and the theme was “service to the people of Central Queensland”.

With 13 loose black & white photographs of various size, mounted on grey card, 1 of which is labelled on the back “Rockhampton Industrial Fair 1950”.

 “C.Q. INDUSTRIAL FAIR: GOOD RESPONSE BY FIRMS WITH EXHIBITS

The newspaper report includes the following:

“Cash on hand and firm promises of donations will make the total of the £2000 appeal for funds by the Central Queensland Industrial Fair Committee 

The response of the firms providing industrial exhibits had been excellent. The committee had been able to approximate the proportion of 75 per cent private enterprise exhibits and 25 per cent to Federal and State commodity board exhibits”.

“there would be a total of 75 exhibits” including “The Central Queensland Meat Export Company”  “The Shell Development Company”  “The heavy engineering firms were well represented Messrs Sidney Williams and Messrs Burns and Twig”.  “The Queensland Railway’s Department’s exhibit promised to be one of the outstanding displays of the Fair”. “The Civil Aviation Department had a magnificent exhibit” “The Royal Australian Air Force, in addition to a display of Jet engines, a display of a modern Mustang fighter and a Mosquito bomber”.

“Two sessions of the Industrial Fair would be conducted each day”. “Charges would be made for admission to both sessions”.

“One of the highlight of the entertainment to be run in conjunction to the Central Queensland Industrial Fair would be the wrestling match between

Chief little Wolf and Francois Valois at the Fairgrounds on the Tuesday night”.

“The speedway night on Monday, September 28, had attracted the patronage of several southern Queensland riders as well as local competitors”.

“For the Band Festival, bands from Gladstone, Bundaberg, Mt Morgan and the Northern Command Band from Military Headquarters, Brisbane would be in attendance, in addition to the three local bands the Rockhampton City Band the Rockhampton Federal Band and the Salvation Army Band”.

“On Saturday, September 23, a colourful street march, with the seven brass bands participating, and later massing in East Street, would be staged”.

“The Venetian Carnival to be held on the Fitzroy River on Wednesday night, September 27 looked like attracting a lot of public attention and being well patronised”.
