Item 9255 is a collection of 14 black and white photographs contained in a brown “COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA – POSTMASTER-GENERAL’S DEPARTMENT, QUEENSLAND” with “ON HIS MAJESTY’S SERVICE” shown in the top left corner, and with a stamped “POST OFFICE COMMUNICATIONS AUSTRALIA” below.
The envelope was addressed to “Mr SANDERCOCK, DIVNL ENGR, TELEGRAPHS”
A hand written comment in lead pencil on the front says “American Telegraph Equipment”.
12 of the photographs are of the Western Union Telegraph Co, 60 Hudson St, New York City. Of these, 10 are showing the telegraph equipment dated 28 Feb 1929, and 2 are a duplicate copy of the 14th Floor, Multiplex (Long Lines) Operating Dept dated 1934.
Also in the envelope were 2 photographs of Brisbane staff. One photo is labled “Male Staff Brisbane Telephone Exchange, 1920. Names are shown below the photo.
The 2nd Brisbane photograph is labled “Mrs Dick, Supervisor female telephonists 1899 (?)” and is stamped “Telecom Aust. Brisbane, QLD, Drafting Section Photograph Neg No. QT1733”.
