C.J.Griffiths Folder Qld Inspection Photos Poles 1943

About this Collection

Item 9274 is a collection of 162 black and white photographs of various  size, contained in a “EXCELACE Flat File” 250mm x 355mm with “Qld Inspection Photos 1943” hand written on the front.

The front cover has in the top right corner the name “C. J. Griffiths”.

The photographs are glued to 49 cream paper pages and 12 grey card pages.

The 49 cream paper pages (with 123 photographs) seem to be for “Tour 1 – Brisbane to Cairns”, and some show various dates for 1943.

The 12 grey pages (with 39 photographs) seem to be for “Tour 2 Brisbane to Townsville Coast Route and Return on Road Route”. None show a date for the photo.

All photos are labelled with a typed description, and the grey cards are also stamped with “Engineering Branch, P.M.G’s Department, Brisbane, Q.” and show Negative Numbers from 623/4 to 624/61.

In a separate envelope attached in the back of the folder are 47 negatives, 55mm x 58mm in size.

Inside the front cover is attached a copy of “The Telecommunication Journal of Australia, October 1963, Page 166” showing the journal contributors, including C J Griffiths.

NOTE:-

In 1943 C. J. Griffiths was a Divisional Engineer, and at the time of the article in 1963, he had been promoted to “Deputy Engineer-in-Chief, Postmaster-General’s Department”. He had joined PMG in 1927 as an Engineer in the Victorian Administration. Some of his work mentioned includes Adelaide to Perth, Adelaide to Darwin, and Townsville to Cape York Trunk Routes, Bass Strait Submarine Cable and the Woomera / Maralinga Rocket Range telecommunication facilities.
