Reg Cockburn had worked as a Telecom Australia Training School instructor. At the time of his retirement, he was the senior officer in charge of Queensland staff training and was based in the City Office, Brisbane.

During the Reg was working as an Instructor, the Technical Training Schools were located at Hesketh House in Elizabeth Street, beside Saint Stephens Cathedral, and at Banfield Street, Chermside.  The Chermside site was extended in the mid 1960’s with 2 new 2 story classroom blocks, then extended again in the 1970’s with 2 more classroom blocks.  These were all demolished in 1990, for a new modern single story structure, which was then demolished as part of the Chermside Shopping Centre extensions.
